Yuletide recs

I haven't had time to read that much in the archive, but the ones I have read have been lovely! Here is my present:

To everything there is a season... (11619 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: The People - Zenna Henderson
Rating: Not Rated
Warnings: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings

This is a lovely story about the power of family/community for redemption, plus which we get to see what happened to Bethie-too, and as an extra bonus that one of the People who was present at the bombing of Hiroshima, which was something I would have asked for if I had had any hope of getting it, and there are so many wonderful details that are so Zenna Henderson. And it is full of life and light and joy and love, just as a People story ought to be. It is probably readable without knowing canon.

Five Time Enjorlas Dropped a Barricade On Someone (1594 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Arm Joe, Les Misérables - All Media Types
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Enjorlas (Arm Joe), Ponpon, Police (Arm Joe), Marius (Arm Joe)
Summary: Dropping barricades from the sky is not a skill that is mastered in just one day, nor is it one to be taken lightly.

...A hilariously straight-faced take on Arm Joe, the incredibly-total-crack street fighter video game version of Les Mis. (If you have not consumed canon, you should! See for example here.) It manages to riff on BOTH video games and on Les Miserables itself without missing a beat. And with Ponpon! And with Feuilly fighting with fans! And, of course, Enjorlas is consistently misspelled because the game does it.

Becoming Tenar (2654 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Earthsea - Ursula K. Le Guin
Rating: Not Rated
Warnings: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Characters: Tenar, Ogion (Earthsea), Ged (Earthsea)
Additional Tags: Worldbuilding
Summary: Why did Tenar leave Ogion's teaching behind, and later marry Flint?

Oh. A lovely, lovely story about Tenar learning to be Tenar, gorgeously written. I've always wondered why Tenar took the route she did, and this fic makes it gorgeously clear, as well as hits my buttons of complex relationships and community at the same time.

Two Gunnerkrigg Court stories, which are both completely marvelous, both very different, and I recommend them both:

Trickster Tales (1441 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Gunnerkrigg Court
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: Ysengrin (Gunnerkrigg Court), Coyote (Gunnerkrigg Court), Àjàpá (Yoruba folklore)
Additional Tags: Non-Western mythology, Non-Western folklore, Tricksters
Summary: Àjàpá the Tortoise comes to Gillitie Wood.

This story could have come from canon, and works both as mythology and as an addition to Coyote's canon in GC. Lovely. Don't need to know canon to read.

perchance to stay (3965 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: Gunnerkrigg Court
Rating: General Audiences
Warnings: Author Chose Not To Use Archive Warnings
Relationships: Renardine | Renard/Surma Stibnite (Gunnerkrigg Court), James Eglamore/Surma Stibnite, James Eglamore/Jones (Gunnerkrigg Court)
Characters: James Eglamore, Surma Stibnite, Reynardine (Gunnerkrigg Court), Anja Donlan, Donald Donlan, Anthony Carver, Jones (Gunnerkrigg Court), Coyote (Gunnerkrigg Court)
Summary: In their last year as students at Gunnerkrigg Court, Surma and friends make an important discovery about the therapeutic potential of Gillitie Wood.

My favorite characters are the parental generation (Eglamore, Tony, Surma, Anja, Donnie, and always JONES who is everyone's generation) and I always always want more about them! And this, in addition to filling that need, is beautifully written, with the same understated humor as canon and every time I read it I get more layers from it, like canon. And everyone is so beautifully in-character. AND there are stories within it.

All His Own Mischance (8338 words) by Anonymous
Chapters: 1/1
Fandom: The Lady of Shalott - Alfred Lord Tennyson
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Warnings: No Archive Warnings Apply
Characters: The Lady of Shalott (Lady of Shalott poem), Lancelot (Lady of Shalott poem)
Additional Tags: Arthurian mythology - Freeform, Alternate Universe
Summary: Lance had never expected to go to the kind of school which made you wear a blazer.

Okay, this story, you guys. I have to admit I almost backbuttoned from this story when I saw it was a school AU, hm. But OH MY GOSH am I glad I didn't, because this thing is awesome: is definitely the best modern-era Arthurian AU I have ever read in fic, and outstrips many if not all of the published modern Arthurian AUs I've read. It is a story that is bigger on the inside than it it looks on the outside.
