Rarewomen reveal

I wrote a story for rarewomen:

Characters: Morgan le Fay, Nimue (Arthurian), Lancelot du Lac, Guinevere (Arthurian)

Summary: Morgan should have been the heir to Uther's gene-cleaning empire. But now it belongs to Arthur, and Lance and Gwen... and Nimue.

morganstern's prompt asked for Morgan le Fay as a legitimate claimant to power, mentioned a preference for politically-oriented, and suggested a modern-day corporate AU. I read the ending of Le Morte d'Arthur and asked: how did Morgan and Nimue get from here to there? And then this story happened.

My betas sprocket and ollipop were terrific. sprocket especially did a lot of heavy lifting in helping me work out the worldbuilding (including basically all the genetics; any remaining errors are mine) as well as reading the first draft, told entirely from Nimue's POV and in which Morgan and Nimue were enemies, and forcing me to confront that it didn't work at all (well, she said it much more nicely than that, but that was the basic idea), with some great ideas to help me write the blasted thing again from scratch. (I think I saved two paragraphs out of that first draft, bah.)

And I got a present! batchsan wrote me a Gunnerkrigg Court story: Say It, a missing scene where Kat and Anja talk about Paz. In my opinion, there can never be too much GC fic, nor can there be too much fic about mothers and daughters. And of course I'm a big fan of Kat/Paz :)

And it's such an awesome story! I wish I could have done more with it besides flail and squee.

(Weirdest beta comment ever: I feel your writing lends itself very well to the font in which you're writing it. Is that insane? The flow is better when it looks like a script. Ao3 makes everything all cramped-feeling. I guess you just write big stories? Stories that need a lot of space.)

Anyway; excitinggggg! Once again, I am so glad you wrote.

You were awesome! I really did find your comments (as always) to be very helpful -- and of course I always like knowing what works too :) And I really didn't mean my story to be like your rarewomen story, except that my recipient asked specifically for a corporate AU :)

And I loved your story as well! Eve and M... I think your writing captures their understated (but supercharged) relationship really well. I did a lot of squeeing over it too, as I remember -- I think I mostly had squee comments, and only really had one substantive comment besides fixing some SPAG that had crept in :)

Hmm. The font is whatever Scrivener's native font is (I'm too lazy to change it) :) That's cool! I do find that it's a very different experience beta'ing a work in one font and then seeing it in AO3 in another font -- which seems weird to me, but there it is.
