I wrote two fics for ToT! One of them was short! The other... was not.

My assignment was B5, and I got to write an AU where Sheridan stayed dead. sprocket was amazing and helped me figure out how the plot was going to work ("how do I get these guys in an arranged marriage??") and betaed this monster at relatively short notice!

Dear trick-or-treater,

Thank you for writing for me! I am very excited to get anything from any of these fandoms :D Feel free to use your own ideas or prompts — I love seeing how other people think about my favorite fandoms, and I love seeing interpretations that are different from mine (some of my favorite fics are the ones that made me look at things in a new way). Also, please don't read anything into the amount of stuff I have written for each fandom; I would be extremely pleased to receive anything for any of these, otherwise I would not have requested them. (Since I'm low on time right now, if I've requested the fandom before or if I wrote it early in the letter process, it's more likely to have a lot of stuff written for it.)

For ToT in particular: I interpret trick/treat in the broadest possible way. "Trick" just means I want you to delve into more of the darkness and messiness of the canon. It could have a happy ending, could have a dark ending, could have character death, adultery, people finding out terrible secrets, people's brains getting stuffed into machines, the supernatural, zombie pumpkins, ...I'd love to see whatever you want to write. I'd ask you to tag for dark elements if not already present in canon, but if you tag than go for it!
"Treat," for a dark canon, means something at least slightly happier than what canon gives us. (Sundial, looking at you -- anything happier than "rocks fall everyone dies" counts, including major character death!) For a lighter canon, you can go as dark as you want during the story itself, but I all I mean by "treat" is that I want happy endings for Our Heroes :) Does not have to be fluff (and in fact I tend not to be a big fan of fluff). Cute zombie pumpkins also welcome here :)

I've had in my head for a while that Sarastro and Pamina's father were friends, and I really enjoyed getting to write this down and get it to explain some things, like why Sarastro pushes for Pamina being initiated into the Temple. Zdenka asked for music, and I had a lot of fun putting lots of music in the story too. Of course Don Carlo(s) is the one I have all the FEEEEEELINGS about, and here is my fix-it where, after many words and four pairs of people having Feelings at each other, I finally managed to fix All The Things, and put in a lot of loyalty bonds and pining and reconciliation and trust because both Zdenka and I love those things. And it was not easy! (I mean fixing all the things, not putting in loads of people flinging themselves to their knees -- that was easy because LOVE.) Verdi/du Locle/Mery put a LOT OF THINGS in the way of Our Heroes, as it turns out, so it took a fair number of words (at least for me, I'm not really a longfic writer)...

Thanks to sprocket and iberiandoctor for beta, with an especial thanks to iberiandoctor for the last-minute beta and "here's what you need to do in the next 36 hours to make this fic THAT MUCH BETTER" talk :D

And then I wrote another small little bitter-chocolate treat for iberiandoctor, because she had the Don Carlo(s) prompt "The opera canon is such a terrible Bad Ending, but I would not mind at all if you tried to make it worse this Halloween," and if you think I could resist that you clearly don't know me very well :D

This one is set in a universe sort-of (?) like the "Coeur de Flamme" fic, in that Philip and Rodrigo are in a sexual relationship at the time of canon (though nothing super explicit). But darker. :P

:D I wrote the prompt "What if Rodrigo were the ghost that shows up at the end, rather than Charles V?" and it got written for meeeeee!! I really appreciate how it takes all the relationships Rodrigo's formed into account -- Carlo, of course! and the Rodrigo-Philip strained bond, and the Rodrigo-Elisabeth bond that in the opera exists more in reference than in on-screen time, but is brought out here as well -- and how it makes some things different, and changes the meaning of others, while keeping others the same. (Also. This fic's ghost!Rodrigo is sooooo much more effective than useless Carlo V in every way possible. THANK YOU AUTHOR.)

iberiandoctor and I have been having loads of fun writing increasingly less anonymous Don Carlo fic for each other (...I probably win the prize on this, but), so, er, yes. Thank you iberiandoctor!!

Now this one. This one. Is the one where someone wrote me almost 5k of Pushkin sonnets. I can't even believe someone did that at all (like, I might... be able to write... one? a it would take me a while), let alone for me! Pushkin sonnets where, indeed, an incredibly cute zombie pumpkin helps Tatyana get over Onegin and fall in love with Gremin, with bonus ghost!Lensky and two ghost letters, and it's also this profound story about what love means and how we love. And also extremely funny! It's just everything I adore about both the verse-novel and the opera, and just so brilliantly done.

I could not imagine who was super amazing enough to do something like this until I got to what may or may not have been a hint tucked in the middle, at which point I immediately realized that selden is indeed super amazing enough to do something like this. ...I don't know this for sure, but it's my guess :D

Also, I would be totally happy to see any of these people interact with zombie pumpkins! (Or any sort of horror/supernatural-ish kind of thing, but zombie pumpkins seem both horror-occult-ish and kinda cute, which is a combination I am super here for. Pet bats? Friendly ghosts?) Olivier and her team defend Briggs from an invasion of alchemy-animated zombie pumpkins! Cave Johnson has the Aperture scientists make ill-advised robot zombie pumpkins that just want to be your friend! Rodrigo takes up his sword (...but not the executioner's axe! :D ) and defends Filippo and Carlo from zombie pumpkins! ~~and then Philip and Carlos get into a fight as to which of them Rodrigo likes more~~ The strength of Don Alvaro's grief for the di Vargases scares off the zombie pumpkin invasion! Tatyana's cute zombie pumpkin pal helps her get over Onegin and fall properly in love with Gremin! Or something :)
