Yuletide obsession

Dear self,

I don't care how excited you are about yuletide letters about [fandoms redacted until post-yuletide], you are not allowed to write yuletide [fandom] fic treats, even if they are about your two favorite characters, until a) you finish [consuming one of the fandoms in question], and b) you work through or at least agree to give up on the THREE PLOT BUNNIES you are performing vast quantities of research on for yuletide, EVEN THOUGH SIGNUPS JUST OPENED, and c) your ACTUAL YULETIDE FIC, which may or may not be one of the three plot bunnies, is outlined and mostly written. Yes, even if that means the treats you're itching to write don't get written. Also remember this December is likely to be a great deal more crazy than last December in real life.

I love that you're excited, but you are hereby forbidden to so cruelly tease the internet with mention of ~mysterious ~as-yet-undigested ~canons and your desire to write about them until such time as you intend to either {a} follow through or {b} at least provide some scrumptious details. Because I (representative of The Internet) cannot handle it.

Ahahahahaha. I thought I had no desire to write about that fandom (because it's so perfect already), and I usually don't. Yuletide (and yuletide letters, which are marvelous) brings out the worst obsessiveness in me... but yeah, at the rate I'm going it'll be next yuletide by the time I get around to it *sigh*

Heh, I don't mind being "bugged" if it comes up.

I do find it extremely entertaining to watch friends be sucked into Yuletide, the more so because my years of reading and few bouts of beta-reading have not sucked me into writing, so far. ("I don't really write" is the protest of many a fic-reader, but it seems to be true of me: I've turned out one short-ish story for a fic challenge. That was eight years ago, with no itch since.)

....yeah, Yuletide is one heck of a gateway drug. Although I don't think I would have been tempted to do it had I not gotten bitten by the fic-bug first. It was inevitable that it would happen someday, mind, given the copious output of Star Trek and MacGyver fanfic I was putting out when I was a kid, before I even knew what fanfic was. (All of which is never, if I have anything to say about it, going to see the light of day again...)

I'm glad you won't mind being bugged if necessary. You were such an awesome beta last year, but I'm trying not to add to what's clearly already an overcommitted life for you... but you are really the only natural choice if this particular one comes up :) On the other hand, the schedule is a lot less cramped this year, so that should help everyone...

Man, I'm glad I didn't realize Yuletide was coming up and is now closed, cause I DO NOT need more fic to write! LOL! NaNoFiMo project, another project and my burning desire to write something at the 1500 word mark that's funny....ak!

AHAHAHAHA! Yeah, yuletide is one of those things that TAKES OVER MY BRAIN. For months at a time. Clearly. :) Looking forward to seeing what you write! All my plot bunnies seem to be about 2000 words or so... :)
