...why not? I don't have too many, but...

I currently have 28 works archived at AO3.

Pick a number from 1 (the most recent) to 28 (the first thing I posted there), and I'll tell you three things I currently like about it.

#1!

#14 is Water Crusade, a Paul/Feyd-Rautha fic I wrote for New Year’s Resolution 2012. I actually mostly wrote this during Yuletide, but ran out of time to polish it during Yuletide itself.

1. I like the way Paul totally doesn’t understand what Feyd-Rautha is telling him about getting perved on at first, but eventually over the years comes to realize what’s going on.

2. I like how Feyd-Rautha gets this tiny moment of redemption while still remaining true to both canon characterization and canon events.

3. Along the same lines — I’d been thinking a lot of Ted Chiang’s time-travel stories while writing this (”Story of Your Life,” “The Merchant and the Alchemist’s Gate” both of which I highly recommend, although maybe don’t read them both at the same time, as it’s basically the same story) and the idea of those stories: how events may be fixed (that is, you can't escape fate), but the way we give meaning to those events can make all the difference, especially on the individual level. I am rather pleased with how I transferred those ideas to the universe of Dune, which is all about how the inescapability of fate, but which never makes that connection.

#21 is Becoming Human, the second part of my four-part OUAT series where I deal with all my ISSUES with Belle and Rumpelstiltskin, and in fact I think this one is the best-written of the four (though Gold seems awfully woobie without having read the first part).

1. I really like the setup of the friendship between Gold and Henry. I think there was a lot of filial chemistry in the scenes Gold and Henry had in first season -- I know second season blah blah, but I really feel like that relationship could have been played up a bit more before OMG SEKRET FAMILY RELATIONSHIP WE ALL GUESSED BEFOREHAND ANYWAY.

2. I like the addressing of the whole thing about Mary Margaret/David and the way the whole town goes after MM (and not David, even though that would make way more sense). Because one way of looking at it is that it’s horribly sexist, and the other way is that it’s clearly the way the curse ought to work, but the show never specifically talked about it. (Okay, also I like that Gold bought a candle from her, because I think that’s hilarious.)

3. I like that the line after “True love used to follow that ring” (Snow’s ring, of course) shows Belle following Gold.

*grin* The Family Business, coming right up! I’ll try not to repeat anything from my previous discussion post :)

1. Diana. Seriously, I could write Diana all day. She’s totally charming, totally competent in an attractive way, and totally amoral. What’s not to like? (…oh hi there Duronas!)

2. If you only knew how many times I had to rewrite that last Arachne-Minerva section to satisfy my beta… But I finally figured it out, and now it’s one of my favorite scenes.

3. I like the ending. I like the resonances it has with the twilight of the gods (well, wrong mythology, but you know what I mean) and the imagery of the spiders carrying their message to every corner of the world: that Arachne got what she was looking for in the end (and that Minerva gave it to her), even if it was too late for Arachne personally.

Hooray for stern betas... it's a great scene, totally worth it. And I still get a little twitch of MINERVA, WHAT ARE YOU DOING? when I read the end, which is something you probably didn't know would resonate with me but does. Management/labor issues, I have them.

Could we write Diana all day? I think there should be more Diana in the world. Or more Duronas. Or possibly we could just throw up our hands and interchange them.

Psst, your link links back to the main DW entry, not the Ao3 version of the fic. Which is not that much of an issue, except I'm sleep deprived and kept clicking it and getting confused. :)

Dune seems to leave its themes really open, which I've come to like... there is much empty sand on which to write your own meaning. I like this one too, and I like that this is currently at the "halfway mark" on your fics. I think you should run a comment on 1 vs. 14 vs. 28 (which is a different meme, I guess, but would be interesting!).

Ha, empty sand, I see what you did there :) Yes, but at the same time it's got its own agenda, and it never sat well to me that the way to escape fate was... to be bred to be magic so you weren't susceptible to fate. Then again, I think God-Emperor is far weaker than its predecessors...

Ahahaha. Oh Minerva. So confused. Either pick Arachne's side and resign and fight against your family, or don't. You can't have both! But -- although she has her moments -- she's a bit of a coward in the end, as the gods are. (I mean, I empathize like crazy! But.)

Hmmm... 24? (Underhanded sneaky birthday parties, ha!)

Hee! Ah, the slice-of-life Bashir/Garak DS9 one I wrote as a treat for Yuletide 2011, One Ordinary Week, with Party Hats!

1. I am a sucker for allusions, and I packed a bunch into this one, from Ford's ST novels The Final Reflection and How Much for Just the Planet to Dragaera to (of course) Portal, which was a last-minute addition and which is everyone's favorite (including mine).

2. I'm really pleased about the conceit of surprise parties as a quintessential Cardassian conspiracy. Because they kind of are!

3. Worf: the way he's so annoyed with Bashir during the whole fic, and is totally happy to attend the party without Bashir at the end. The last line still makes me laugh.
