I had a very hard time writing this fall, but fortunately my assignment was a canon I love, and finally, fortunately before rather than after the default deadline, I got unblocked. And I was able to fix the one thing that irks me about the book's ending, which is that Christopher just needs to be called out about his severe lack of communication! :) Thanks to
sprocket for beta, and
mildred_of_midgard,
selenak, and
recessional for discussing marriage and proposals in Tudor England for me (although of course they should not be found responsible for anything in this fic).

Summary:
I'd also been sort of flirting with
melannen's prompt for water meadows, in the sense that since I'd already been thinking about this book, I figured I might as well also read up about drainage and water meadows since
melannen had a prompt for them! (And who ended up getting some water meadows and more drainage, because Christopher feels REALLY STRONGLY about drainage, okay.) I also ended up reading about Francis Russell, the 4th Earl of Bedford, who is famous for his project to drain The Fens of Cambridgeshire, and his dad, also interested in drainage, and unfortunately I could not get the dates to line up properly but hey, Francis Russell the 2nd Earl of Bedford (and the 4th Earl's grandfather) had the same swampy property in Cambridgeshire as his son and might also have been interested, why not?
Thanks to
sprocket for beta and again to salon for answering panicked questions about nomenclature :)

Summary:
Christopher had had his arrival at the Perilous Gard with Kate's family all planned out in his head for weeks now.
Like most things that involved Kate, this plan didn't go at all the way he'd thought it would.
