two things

1. So I have not been watching OUAT lately. Interestingly, it was 2x04 that stopped me in my tracks, a Carlyle-centric episode. I mean, I adore Robert Carlyle and all that, obviously, but then it was, oh, look, there Gold/Rumpel goes again, he's still evil! Which was exactly what I asked for -- I didn't (still don't) want him to have a sudden woobly personality change, and I did want Belle to think better of the whole thing (was quite pleased about that), but suddenly it just seemed so boring, like, we already did this in Season 1, could we have something new, please? Something a little more complex? (It doesn't help that I've been mainlining The Good Wife, which has dialogue and complicated characters and character arcs that are approximately twenty million times as awesome. Or that in SGU they actually fixed a lot of the things that were plaguing me at the start, whereas I dunno, Season 2 of OUAT seems to be more of season 1.) But then apparently there are spoilers that Gold and Regina are going to be featured prominently together for a couple of episodes at least, and, um. I may have to watch that, because Carlyle and Parilla together are, well, magic.

(Also: there has got to be a crack way of crossovering Mr. Gold and Eli Gold, right? I do not know what it is, especially since Carlyle doesn't present as Jewish to me at all, but it must exist.)

(ETA: Oh my gosh, I am totally starting to write this crossover in my head. I HAVE PROBLEMS.)

2. ALL THE YULETIDE FEEEEELINGS. Obviously. I have not gotten a whole lot done this afternoon.

So I liked the plot -- I mean, usual warning for parts that were clearly Just In for Coolness Factor, Made No Sense, And That I Really Don't Think They'll Explain (loved the solitary Gold scenes, but seriously show? Are you ever going to explain how that Happened? No, I didn't think so) -- the pacing seems to be way better than last season, and I thought the acting was pretty much uniformly strong. (I suspect a lot of the actors are enjoying being able to act their FTL selves.) I am really kind of digging Hopper/Jiminy these days.

Sooo... was it just me, or was the dialogue really horribly terrible? The only good line belonged to WHALE, of all people. Seriously, when I'm watching a Gold/Regina scene, I shouldn't be thinking, "Wow, it's sure amazing how much they can do with such crappy material to work with!" Also, dear writers, when a scene is supposed to be about love and redemption, you should not actually mention the words "love" and "redeem" in your text. It's much stronger that way. As it was I was cringing at the crass obviousness of the dialogue. A lot.

Unsurprisingly, most of the moments that stood out to be were the nonverbal ones: Red cornering Charming (LOVE that friendship); and both Parilla and Carlyle can reduce me to flailing about just by STANDING there. (Or, in Parilla's case, looming.) Also, that was some creepy Rumpel there. Also, also... the more Parilla-and-Carlyle I get, the better; and this makes me think there is going to be more, a lot more, YAY. Also, I totally want Gold to lose his memory. That would be SO COOL. GAAAH. If the show doesn't go there I might have to. But fortunately I cannot possibly do so until after yuletide, at which point I'll presumably have forgotten I said this :)

So I think I'm going to start posting these here, because I think everyone on my f-list who watches this show is following this journal.

Okay, I ended up being very pleased by this episode, not least because I nailed quite a lot of the character interaction, especially Gold (heh, I love how everyone's saying "Gold" because it's too much of a mouthful to say "Rumpelstiltskin) and Charming and Emma-Snow-stress (though I completely failed at predicting the source, but hey, AU), and they even brought back the "best chance" line and obviously I was full of glee about that. I swear, I can't sit still through the Fairyland parts ever, though.

I loved the reunion scene, I love Charming, I am not sure what to think about Rumbelle except that I disliked the ending, I am SO pleased the show is staying consistent with Gold's character, I looooooooove Lana Parilla like anything, I love Emma-Regina and Regina-Gold like anything, I continue to be bored with Henry but less completely displeased with Henry-Regina. Spoilers. )
