Ha, the npt MONSTER is safely out to beta and I can relax a bit while waiting to hear back, so have some recs from rarewomen! (I know, only a month late...) I thought that there was some really nice stuff produced for rarewomen. Here are some of my favorites:

First, MY GIFT. My gift of awesomeness, you guys! I asked for The Secret Garden, and I ended up on the pinch hit list until, like, two days before deadline, and I had pretty much resigned myself to possibly getting nothing at all, and then I got this lovely surprise instead:

Two Lilies (1496 words) by faviconopalmatrix
Fandom: Secret Garden - Frances Hodgson Burnett

Lovely character sketch of a first meeting between Lily Craven and Susan Sowerby.

And here are a couple of others:

Nothing But a String of Numbers (2337 words) by faviconstoriesfortravellers
Fandom: Greek and Roman Mythology
Characters: Ariadne (Greek and Roman Mythology), Persephone (Greek and Roman Mythology)

Cyberpunk AU of Greek mythology. I must confess that I was prepared to dislike this story putting together two characters who don't interact in canon, but it works well!

A Dream You Dream Together is Reality (7814 words) by faviconlady_ragnell
Fandom: Inception (2010)

I almost didn't read this, because most Inception fic leaves me cold, but I'm so glad I took a chance on this. An AU in which Mal was right, and Phillipa grows up knowing there was another version of her... This is a lovely, heartbreaking look at how Phillipa grows up and comes to terms with this, how the dream-Phillipa interacts with and shapes real-Phillipa's life even though dream-Phillipa never existed, the mother-daughter relationship between Mal and Philippa. And I also love Arthur in this one -- he's family to Mal and Phillipa and James, including fighting with them and trying to save them, without it turning into a romantic relationship that (IMO) is out of character for him. My favorite rarewomen fic.

Five Strays Elizabeth Naismith took in (and One That Got Away) (2596 words) by faviconMinutia_R
Fandom: Vorkosigan Saga - Lois McMaster Bujold

I like to write my own summaries for recs, but I feel like the summary of this one is so good that it stands by itself:

Summary:

Dear Cordelia,

I'm sure I don't need to tell you that Miles is a charming and intelligent young man; I've been enjoying his company immensely. He's made plenty of friends, and taken to the social opportunities at school with a great deal of verve. (For more details, please see the attached disciplinary reports from Principal Hatter.)
