A man's death here, a woman's life there, a child lost: they start to lose meaning, for a king.
Hebrew Bible (Abigail, Bathsheba), gen, various warnings tagged: AO3 link here.
I really, really loved writing this yuletide fic for
quasiradiant (um, does anyone know whether s/he has actually seen it? If you ever see the fic, quasiradiant, I hope you like it!), which was the best fandom/set of characters imaginable. I had about an hour of WHAT WAS I THINKING panic when I got the assignment, and then on reread was all THIS IS AWESOME. I wrote more about how awesome 2 Samuel is, and some of my thoughts about the characters, in my books/media-rant journal here.
Many, many profuse thanks to my betas,
thistleingrey and
orichalcum, who, besides pointing out logical, historical, and diction errors, also both independently and for different reasons made me take out a scene that didn't work and replace it with the one containing Michal. Who is awesome, and it is sort of unbelievable to me now that she wasn't in before. Also thanks to the Misses Clause Challenge, without which Maacah would not have been a character either.
