...and I still haven't gotten through everything I want to read, and probably won't be able to post again until reveal, so, um, I apologize to anyone whose totally awesome fic I haven't read yet?
This one's the "more popular" rec post -- all of these, I think, have been recced at least once somewhere or another (or are popular without my having seen a rec), but I loved them too, and hey, maybe not all of you follow all the rec posts obsessively, so.
In the mirror (1385 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Beauty and the Beast (1991)
Ahhhhh. A dark look at the Disney tale more closely intertwined with place-and-time setting in our world. Lovely.
Empress of Sand and Water (24166 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Dune Series - Frank Herbert
This fic hit all kinds of sweet spots for me; it took everything I love about the source (which I love a lot) -- politics, backstabbing, wheels within wheels, that sense of history -- and fixed all the things that drive me nutty about source (again a lot) -- Irulan and Chani get to be actors instead of acted upon. Yay!
Mother Tongue (6695 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Earthsea - Ursula K. Le Guin
This fic takes place after the end of Tehanu and is a lovely, lovely coda to the book.
An Abecedary of Tragic Ends, Explicated for the Reader (2600 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Gashlycrumb Tinies - Edward Gorey
...Basically all the Gashlycrumb stories are incredible and deserve reading, but this one happens to be my favorite, if only because I laughed so very hard at Amy and Basil that the author then had me pinned for the rest of the fic. (Um. Bad metaphor?)
Reasons Why Lizzie Bennet Is Perpetually Single: A Helpful List Compiled by Her Awesomer, Sexier, Totes Adorbs and Amazing Younger Sister (1387 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Lizzie Bennet Diaries
I haven't read all the Lizzie Bennet Diaries stories yet, but this one is pretty darn awesome.
Harp and Soup (1737 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Chronicles of Prydain - Lloyd Alexander
Just a lovely little retelling of a traditional tale, this one starring Flewddur Fflam, with his harp as unwilling straight man, I mean, harp.
All the Worlds (2235 words) by Anonymous
Fandom: Scarlet Pimpernel - Baroness Orczy, Chronicles of Narnia - C. S. Lewis
One of the lovely things about yuletide is seeing a prompt and wondering how it might be filled, and then coming back to find someone has filled it in a brilliant way that I would never ever have thought of in a million years, and done it with style. This is that fic.
