Snowflake challenge day 3: Comment to someone you haven't ever interacted with before or introduce yourself to someone you've interacted with and friend/follow them.

I mention this only to give another signal-boost to [personal profile] kouredios's friending meme, from which I found some very cool people -- and yesterday I went back and looked at who had commented on it since I had last looked at it, and found more cool people!

Snowflake challenge day 4: In your own space, create a list of at least three fannish things you'd love to receive, something you've wanted but were afraid to ask for - a fannish wish-list of sorts.

Ooh...

1. Opera!fic -- I can count on the fingers of one hand the operas I've seen where the plots make sense and the characters actually operate like real people with real motivations. (Le Nozze di Figaro, some of the 20th-century stuff, ... surely there must be others but that's all I have right now? Maybe Gluck's Iphigenie en Tauride if you discount the deus ex machina ending?) I got this lovely Turandot fic for Yuletide where my wonderful author added a rich political backstory that started to actually make sense of the rushed/nonsensical emotional arcs and plot holes, and now I want it for ALL THE OPERA. Any opera would be fine -- Die Zauberflote is so close to my heart but the plot holes are This Big; or if you were to make some sense of Lucia di Lammermoor that didn't involve all the characters being dumb as rocks I'd love you forever... it doesn't have to be an opera I've seen; if I haven't seen it I will watch/listen to it in order to read your fic :)

(Or, if opera!fic is not your thing, rants about operas are great too, and same deal: I will happily watch/listen to any opera you want to rant about so that I can participate :) )

2. Friendship/partnership fic, no romance! (Recs, too, would be great, especially in fandoms I know.) I'm guilty of wanting to write romance/ships as anyone else, and I'm going to try to work on this. I adore romance, don't get me wrong, I write and read it all the time -- but I sometimes get tired of the idea that the only valuable connections between people are of a romantic/sexual nature, and that a partnership is bound to end up as a romance. I want the closeness and the finishing each other's sentences and the different strengths combining and the snark (definitely the snark) and the problem-solving and the loyalty -- without the sex.

3. Scientists working together! (Again, recs would be great!) I love, more than anything else, the rapid-fire exchanges, arguments, disagreements, persuasion, hilariously awful thought experiments, being told how hilariously awful the thought experiment is, pointing out that thought experiment may be hilariously awful but it's still relevant, that amazing moment when you both work it through and see what the answer is going to be -- well, you get the drift. I love it. I want to see more of it in fic. I don't care if the science itself is complete technobabble, I just want the gestalt of it.

A couple of more specific wants that vaguely relate to the general wants:

4. The Good Wife: I want more fic with Eli Gold. ALL THE ELI EVER. I don't want him romantically involved with anyone, except maybe Vanessa Gold (I cannot tell you how much I ship them!) -- but if so then that has to be the aching we-still-love-each-other-so-much-but-it-can't-actually-work disaster it is in canon. Eli with daughter Marissa would make me so happy I can't even tell you! But really, Eli interacting with, snarking with, politically plotting with any of the women on the show (Alicia, Kalinda, Diane, ELSBETH) would be so awesome.

5. SGA: Jeannie Miller Doing Rapid-Fire Science with Anyone. Special bonus points for doing science with another lady scientist! (Sam Carter? Park from SGU?) I would also very much not say no to Jeannie and Rush, especially if this came with healthy servings of Jeannie smacking Rush down :)

And one can take it for granted that anything I've mentioned in my yuletide wishes are things that I want more of!

The bit that I've been generically using as a preview to get people excited:

"So I did a full-spectrum scan of the tesseract's emission profile and I'm trying to match it to particle decay paths to build a composition map. Once I have that fully diagrammed I can work out the terms of its Yang-Mills solution. But there's a lot of literature review ahead of me. Can you believe nobody's ever sat down and catalogued all known isotopic decay paths in machine readable format? You'd think every professor in the country with an extra grad student on stipend and no work to give him would have them plugging away at that."

"Oh, I had JARVIS do it two years ago when I had a lunch break. It comes in useful more often than you'd think."

"XML or JSON?"

"Oh, fuck that. SML. XML is a camel fucked by committee."

"I've never heard of SML."

"Stark Markup Language. I invented it. Fully parseable syntax, reprogrammable and redundant but entirely consistent. Built-in allowances for programmer drunkenness. You think JARVIS's data files are stored in XML? I'm not that insane. If his data structures got corrupted he'd never recover. Here, I'll transfer you the spec."

Bruce swore. "Tony Stark, this tree structure is impossible. Here, Erik, look at this spec. I have to work through 6 dimensional hypergeometries just to write a simple pattern-matcher. I almost prefer the idea of starting from scratch with my own literature search."

Tony shrugged. "It was easier for me to visualize that way."

Heh, at the pace I'm writing you probably have a good couple years to watch Avengers.
