This year I wrote Opera RPF/Don Carlos (Verdi), 18th CE RPF/Sieben Jahre (Kinkel) and Blood on the Clocktower fic.

I... I never thought I would be here, but yes, I offered on a whim and then wrote Opera RPF (crossed with Don Carlos) as my assignment this Yuletide. (I am going to refer to the characters in the fic by their first names, to distinguish them from talking about the actual real-life opera singers, whom I will refer to by their last names, which is also basically what I had to do while writing it so I didn't over-associate with the real people. Who are great and clearly infinitely more complex and interesting than any story could be, let us be perfectly clear on that point. These are just made-up characters with some commonalities. <3)

I thought it was going to be a quick humorous look at these four guys and them participating in an opera together. (My recip

iberiandoctor suggested Don Carlo(s), though I could not really see Hampson's voice as Philippe nor Terfel's voice as the Inquisitor, leading to the rather cockeyed fic solution of having Simon and Thomas share the role so that Bryn could be Philippe, which apparently is less weird to me?? lol, my brain.) Then I got the idea they might actually get transported to opera-land! ... and then I realized that, well, recip wanted shipping, which I had a hard time doing in our world but if it got initiated with Posa and Carlo and Philippe... Anyway, between all those things it got kinda long. Maaaany thanks to

I also really really wanted to write Sieben Jahre fic for gottschedin. I'd started out thinking about writing post-Rossbach Heinrich/Fritz fic, but I kept looking at gottschedin's amazing Luise prompts. And I really enjoyed writing Luise, who is such a nice and sweet person -- it was a joy to be thinking about things from her POV. It didn't start out being a 5+1 fic, but at some point I looked around and I had five sections, and recip mentioned liking 5+1 structure, so... :) Thank you to

While I was waiting for assignments to come out, I was told by the local Blood on the Clocktower fan that I should write a Blood on the Clocktower fic. I loved

astrokath's prompts asking why the evil characters act the way they do, and I got halfway through writing it... and at that point it felt like I should just finish it up, which I managed to do while the other two were out for beta. (This one was always meant to be a 5+1.) It got a little more game-mechanic-y than perhaps was quite ideal, perhaps because I was bitter about my last game of BotC :) Thank you to the local BotC fans for beta!
